Hair Dos: Retro Waves are All the Rage

For all of you vintage Hollywood glamour junkies like myself, I ask…who on earth wouldn’t want to look like the stunning Veronica Lake?!

Veronica Lake

Her skin! Her eyes! Her fabulous hair!  Kate Bosworth recently took inspiration from the glamorous Lake, and copied this look for the Costume Institute Gala.  Bosworth doesn’t need much to look beautiful, her different colored eyes are captivating, and she already had great hair for this style. Also take note of the red lips!

To achieve this style, there are a few steps in the actual styling process.  First you must start with a good blow dry, apply a good styling creme. Mouton's recommends Bumble and Bumble Styling Creme. To read the complete article, go to http://blogs.smarter.com/beauty/

Fun with Fringe- Hairstyle Trends 2009

Mouton Salon - Wednesday, April 29, 2009
Fringe hairstyles with side swept fringes or choppy fringes and asymmetrical or angular cuts in curly hair can give you the best look to your fringe hairstyles in the year 2009. For a radical style and an incredible look, you could try out fringe hairstyles by opting for shattered or disconnected fringes. Women in the early 40s can think of side swept fringes as a great option for fringe hairstyles in the year 2009.

Fringe hairstyles featuring asymmetrical and choppy fringes with angled layers and few touches of bold colors to the fringes can become a classic choice for a sensuous look for the women in the early 50s. One of the best new looks for fringe hairstyles in the year 2009 could be an ultra feminine short hairstyle with a full fringe, style and subtle volume where the sides are to be neatly tucked behind the ears.

Drew Berrymore Flapper in Alberta Ferretti

Mouton Salon - Friday, April 17, 2009
Drew Barrymore does classic Hollywood glamour in Alberta Ferretti

Attending the premiere of "Grey Gardens" in New York, Barrymore donned a Alberta Ferretti gown with sheer overlay and intricate beading. Her flapper-esque finger waves were a far cry from the milkmaid braids we spotted her in earlier this week; but were equally as gorgeous. It's been a some time since I've come across an interpretation of classic Hollywood fashion that achieves levels of perfection, but hats off to Drew Barrymore for achieving just that. Bohemian Updo

Hillary's Picks: Spring 09 Beauty

Boho Updos
As much as I enjoy having long hair, there are many days I want it off my neck and out of my face. Such moments call for buns or twists, but I loathe anything that looks too dainty or mature. Happily I found loads of inspiration on the spring runways, as the models at Armani, Issa, and Max Azria all showed fabulously unfussy pinned-up hair. I’m particularly infatuated with the hippie-chic style shown at Trovata: a casual knot at the nape of the neck, embellished with two tiny twists. I also plan on trying my own version of the bohemian-glam hairstyle Nicole Richie wore to The Art of Elysium’s Heaven Gala last month. Her pinned-up baby braids remind me a bit of the boho braid, albeit a much more fashion-forward version!

Part of the reason I adore this look so much is because it’s completely casual and open to interpretation, not to mention the fact that it’s seriously easy to do! That said, I think it helps to have a little texture in your hair when you’re creating a boho updo. Try a spritz of ghd’s Sea Spray For Matte Waves ($24) on damp hair to add body and encourage waves. (On a side note: the spray was used backstage at Proenza Schouler to create the Jerry Hall-homage hair seen at the spring show!) Another way to add a little texture is with my other new obsession—Big Sexy Hair’s Volumizing Dry Shampoo ($16.95). The formula is derived from some magical combination of clay and minerals—not talc, like most dry shampoos—so the spray is complete invisible. It’s seriously amazing!

Hairstyles for Wavy Hair - 2009
http://hairstyles-haircuts.blogspot.com/2008/12/hairstyles-for-wavy-hair.html

Wavy hair, when natural, can seem like a great gift or a curse. It all depends on how you treat it! For the individual born with a tendency to waviness, there are many hairstyles that allow you to exploit this quality for some fantastic looks without having to go to through three hours of salon treatments.

Though waves can be created artificially, the natural wave is a timesaver and a money saver. It all depends on how well you take care of your hair. If you take the time to find the right shampoo and conditioner, you have saved yourself a world of effort in styling. Another problematic factor that arises when styling wavy hair is actually not very important.

Anne Hathaway Cropped Hair

Mouton Salon - Wednesday, April 08, 2009
Anne Hathaway Hairstyles

Anne was spotted here leaving St. Aloysius School in Harlem where she was on site to unveil the ‘Feeding America’ artwork at the Renaissance cafe inside the school. And it seems like an nasty ex-con boyfriend is not the only thing that Anne Hathaway has shed this year, it looks like she has shorn her voluminous waves to sport a chic cropped look that is sleek and very contemporary.

Cropped locks are the new black in Hollywood as far as
hairstyles are concerned and instead of going super short, Anne has gone to a semi-medium length that is very pretty.

This is a great look for those with naturally heavy and
wavy hair, as shorter lengths will lighten the weight on your hair and give you more texture and make the most of your volume. To get this look, go for a medium length cut with slight but chunky layers and this will give you the movement you want.

To achieve this sleek look, blow dry your hair with a flat paddle brush, and this will smooth out any natural waves that you may have, and leave you with a super soft finish that is simply touchable.
