Flat Iron Finish- Styling 101

It takes about 30 seconds for a professional flat iron to heat up. Turn your iron on while
you are blow drying to preheat. After blow drying your hair completely, apply a
professionally prescribed product that will protect your locks from damage caused by the
heat from the iron. It is easiest to start at the bottom of your head and work your way up
towards the top. Take a small section of hair, and hold your hair straight out from your
head, start with the flat iron close to your roots and pull tight all the way to your ends.
Make sure the flat iron is closed tight! This will help give you that smooth look you see
while at the salon. After you have flat ironed all sections, run your fingers loosely through
your hair to break up separation from the sections. Apply a finishing product to keep the
humidity out of your hair.

It is also important to take care of your flat iron. Over time product can build up on the
plates. Wipe them clean with a damp cloth, when the iron is off. You only need your iron
on while you are styling your hair. If you leave it on for extended periods of time the
thermostat will burn out more quickly.
